The script checks if Yarn is being installed as a global package with npm and, if it finds that the existing 'yarn' symlink was created by Corepack, it removes the symlink to prevent npm from crashing due to refusal to overwrite non-npm binaries. It does not attempt to steal sensitive information, get unauthorized access, run or download remote code, or harm the system; instead, it is intended to maintain compatibility and a smooth user experience for Node users transitioning to using Corepack.
